Orchard Cottage is an 18th Century cottage situated in the tiny village of Denton near Stilton.  Denton comprises a dozen widely-spaced houses, two farms, and a ruined medieval church. Denton is near the Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire borders.   It is 6.4 miles (20 min) from Peterborough station (London Kings Cross to Peterborough takes 45 to 55 min) and 60 miles (1 hr 30 min) from Stanstead Airport.  Peterborough, Yaxley and Fletton all have taxi services but because of its isolated position it is essential that at least one guest has a car

There is no through road through Denton and Orchard Cottage is opposite a farm.  There is parking for up to three cars outside the gate.  There is an incline from the road to the gravel path which leads around the house to the front door (about 50 metres).   If you arrive at night  the path is lit by a sensor-operated spotlight.

The front door is 195 cm high and 85 cm wide and there is a 15 cm step into the house.  All  internal doors are at least 72 cm wide except for the door into the downstairs lavatory which is only  57 cm. wide.    The arch between the study and the kitchen area is  60 cm wide and the beam above it is only 175 cm.  (5 ft 9 in.) high - MIND YOUR HEAD.

There is a 15 cm step from the conservatory into the garden.

There is a wide staircase (90 cm) with a heavy rope banister leading from the sitting room to the sleeping area.

The garden is mainly lawn and flower beds.  However, there is a deep pond which makes it unsuitable for small children

Fire safety:  There are interconnected heat detectors in the kitchen and sitting room and smoke detectors on both landings.  There is also a smoke detector in each bedroom.   There are fire extinguishers in the kitchen, the sitting room  (on the right of the fire place) and on the upstairs landing.  Full fire safety instructions are given to all guests on arrival.
